A new emerging rural world – an overview of rural change in Africa

The new revised and supplemented Atlas “A new and emerging rural world” looks into the new reality in Africa. The atlas looks at the ongoing dynamics of rural transformation in rural areas in Africa and puts the challenges of structural change in focus. The atlas is comprised of data on demographics, population, urbanisation, resource use and spatial and economic dynamics. The information is organised in local, regional, national and continental maps and tables that serve to support the debate on development and structural issues on the continent.

The atlas was presented at the Brussels Briefing on “Strengthening rural livelihoods in the face of rapid urbanisation in Africa” and framed the discussion on drivers and dynamics of rural transformation.
