State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World is an annual flagship report prepared by FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO to inform on progress towards ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition and to provide in-depth analysis on key challenges for achieving this goal in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This year's edition focuses on repurposing food and agricultural policies to make healthy diets more affordable.
Key facts and figures:
- The number of people affected by hunger globally rose between 702 and 828 million in 2021, an increase of about 46 million since 2020 and 150 million since 2019.
- More than 670 million people may still be hungry in 2030, while rising inflation in consumer food prices caused 122 million people the inability to afford healthy diets.
- The gender gap in food insecurity has widened under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, and was around 2.5 greater in 2021 than in 2019 globally. In 2021, 9% of women in the world were moderately or severely food insecure compared to 27.6% of men.
